VDURA has fully deployed its dedicated data platform at New Mexico State University (NMSU), officially bringing the system into full operational production. The infrastructure delivers a highly resilient, high-throughput storage ecosystem purpose-built to support the institution’s AI and high-performance computing (HPC) research workloads.
A Carnegie R1-tier research institution, NMSU oversees more than $141 million in yearly research spending spanning aerospace, cybersecurity, agriculture, water science and biomedical fields. The university has incorporated the VDURA platform into its Research Cores Program, which unifies shared instruments and computational resources to advance large-scale simulation and AI model training across multiple academic departments.
Mixed-Fleet Architecture and InfiniBand Integration
The deployment leverages VDURA’s mixed-fleet storage architecture, combining high-speed NVMe flash and high-density HDD storage tiers. This tiered setup presents a unified global namespace over NMSU’s InfiniBand network fabric. The NVMe layer provides low-latency response and high IOPS for active computing pipelines, while the high-capacity HDD tier offers economical bulk storage for secondary datasets and long-term data archiving.
Powered by a subscription-based software-defined architecture, the platform enables the university to scale performance and raw storage capacity independently over time. This flexible expansion adapts to growing computational needs without interrupting ongoing production workflows.
Alignment with Post-Quantum Cryptography Research
This production rollout extends a strategic collaboration launched in August 2025 between VDURA and NMSU, centered on post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The joint effort seeks to develop and commercialize advanced cryptographic techniques, safeguarding petabyte-scale AI and HPC data pipelines from future quantum computing security threats.
By standardizing on VDURA’s hardware and software stack, NMSU conducts its core research operations on the same storage infrastructure used for its ongoing security and data pipeline co-development initiatives. VDURA’s technical team highlighted that stable, high-efficiency data infrastructure maximizes compute utilization for mission-critical research, effectively accommodating the university’s expanding computational demands.
