Kioxia is showcasing its Optane-class GP series SSDs with 2x speed improvement, a new longer-capacity QLC drive for large datacenters, and its liquid-cooled NX1 SSD at the OCP Global Summit.
An enhanced GP Series SSD uses Gen 3 XL-FLASH and delivers over 20 million IOPS in 512-byte random read performance. The version announced back in August offered roughly 10 million IOPS. Compared with conventional SSDs, XL-FLASH delivers higher IOPS, finer-grained 512-byte data access, and lower power consumption per I/O. We understand this Gen 1 XL-FLASH adopts MLC (2 bits/cell) with a fast SLC (1 bit/cell) mode, a 16-plane architecture, and read latency below 5 microseconds.
Neville Ichhaporia
SVP and GM of the SD business unit at Kioxia America, said: “Kioxia is building game-changing high-performance flash storage solutions for AI infrastructure. As AI brings new performance requirements, scalable and efficient storage becomes the foundation of innovation. We help data centers build that foundation by pioneering storage solutions specifically designed for AI-driven infrastructure."
Gen 3 XL-FLASH triples read performance and boosts write performance by approximately 150 percent. It uses even shorter word lines and bit lines to cut RC delay, and each die has more planes than the 16 planes found in Gen 2. Energy efficiency is expected to rise by about 40 percent for reads and 80 percent for writes. Since performance scales faster than efficiency, energy consumed per I/O is still projected to increase.
Kioxia LD4
The LD4 is a single-port, QLC (4 bits/cell), E1.L format drive with a PCIe 5 x 4 lane interface. Its standard capacity options are 15.36 TB and 30.72 TB. These are not considered ultra-high capacities for QLC drives, as Kioxia already has products reaching 246 TB. According to Kioxia, the LD4 architecture can be extended up to 122.88 TB, targeting hyperscalers and large data centers.

There is ample room inside the E1.L enclosure. The 15.36 TB model fills one quarter of the available space, 30.72 TB fills half, and 122.88 TB uses the full space. A 61.44 TB variant that fills three quarters of the space will likely be launched later.
The LD4 is built on Kioxia’s BiCS 8 218-layer flash. Back in October 2023, Kioxia released an E1.L drive with PCIe 3 interface and the same 15.36 TB and 30.72 TB capacities. That earlier model was believed to use BiCS Gen 5 112-layer QLC flash. There was no LD3 product. The LD4 can be seen as a BiCS 8 refresh of the LD2 with a faster PCIe 5 bus.
Competing E1.L PCIe 5 SSDs include products from Micron, DapuStor and FADU.
Kioxia has not released any performance or endurance figures for the LD4. It is confirmed to support NVMe 2.0, comply with the OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD Specification 2.6, and feature end-to-end data loss protection.
The company is also demonstrating its liquid-cooled E1.S series NVMe SSDs for data centers.
The OCP 2026 Global Summit will be held at the San Jose Convention Center, California, from October 12 to 16.
