KIOXIA has launched the NX1 Series, a new lineup of PCIe 5.0 NVMe data center SSDs based on the E1.S form factor. These drives offer capacities from 1.92 TB to 15.36 TB, featuring a 1 DWPD endurance rating for read-intensive workloads, and support both air and direct liquid cooling. Serving as the successor to the XD Series, the SSDs are engineered for GPU-enabled AI servers and hyperscale infrastructure, where dense storage layouts demand efficient heat dissipation.

The 9.5 mm E1.S model supports dual cooling modes of direct liquid cooling and air cooling, while the thicker 15 mm variant is limited to air cooling. As KIOXIA’s first SSD product with direct liquid cooling compatibility, the NX1 Series fits cold-plate-enabled deployments, delivering effective thermal management for dense, accelerator-heavy server designs.
KIOXIA equips the NX1 Series with a newly developed in-house controller architecture and 8th-generation BiCS FLASH TLC memory leveraging CBA technology. The platform supports mainstream industry standards including PCIe 5.0, NVMe 2.0, OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD 2.6 and NVMe Flexible Data Placement.
Against the legacy KIOXIA XD8 Series, the NX1 achieves up to 38% higher sequential write performance and 20% higher random write performance. All performance metrics are reference values, subject to variation based on host systems, drivers, operating systems, software environments and actual read/write conditions.
The optional TCG Opal SED security model does not support all TCG Opal SSC features, and this secure configuration is not available in all regions due to local regulatory constraints.
The KIOXIA NX1 Series is currently sampling for selected hyperscale customers. KIOXIA will also showcase the new SSD series at FMS: Future of Memory and Storage, held in Santa Clara, California from August 4 to August 6.
